Ready to Shed My Winter Layers

It’s the last day of winter and I think I’m ready to shed a few layers.

Not just the jumpers, blankets and ridiculous amount of socks either.

It’s been a tough couple of months…I don’t know about you, but I’ve definitely been hibernating. I’ve pulled my little world in close and spent a lot of time doing Rain things.

Studying. Learning about herbs. Writing in my journals. Making things. Being at home. Pottering around outside when the sun appeared. Spending time with the humans I love. Letting myself disappear into the things that make me happy for a while…

And I think I needed it.

Winter has a funny way of doing that. Everything outside slows down. Things become bare. Growth becomes harder to see. But underneath the soil, life hasn’t stopped.

Maybe we’re a little like that too.

Sometimes the seasons where it looks like we aren’t doing very much are actually the ones where something important is happening underneath.

We’re resting. Learning. Processing. Changing our minds. Letting go. Growing roots nobody else can see.

And for some, we’re simply getting through it.

There doesn’t always need to be a beautiful lesson attached to the hard seasons.

Sometimes winter is just winter…

But now I can feel something shifting. The days are getting a little longer. The sun feels different on my skin. There are tiny new things appearing in the garden. The birds seem louder. Spring is beginning to sneak back in ~ yum!

And I’m ready for it ♡

I’m ready to open the windows
To sit in the sun for far too long
To get outside more
To swim in the creek
To grow things
To wander
To make plans again
To remember that there is a whole beautiful world beyond the little cocoon I made for myself this winter.

I don’t want to rush out of it though. There are things winter gave me that I want to keep…

The quiet
The learning
The peace
The permission to turn inward
The reminder that I actually really like my own company
The things I discovered when I had time to notice them

Maybe shedding our winter layers doesn’t mean leaving that version of ourselves behind.

Maybe it just means carrying her gently into the next season ♡

A little wiser. A little more gentler. Knowing herself a little better.

Tomorrow, spring begins…

And if winter has been hard for you too, you don’t need to burst into September blooming…

You don’t need a new plan
A new body,
A new routine or a completely transformed life

Come out slowly, my love.

Turn your face towards the sun.
Notice what is beginning to grow again.
And when you’re ready, follow it.

There is no shame in having spent a season tucked away. Even the earth knows there is a time to go quiet.

And then, eventually, there comes a time to reach for the light again ♡

I think I’m ready ♡
